Values-Based training - 10/9/17 and 10/10/17

PCIC hosted this two-day workshop focused on “Values-Based Care Planning”. Participants were provided with methods and strategies for using cognitive-behavioral and complex trauma frameworks to gain a greater understanding of why complex patients behave in ways that seem self-destructive.

The role of machine learning in effective and efficient care coordination

We see machine learning applied in a lot of business these days, from optimal search engine results to shopping recommendations. When IBM Watson won “Jeopardy!” against humans, it marked the beginning of a new era in artificial intelligence, where machines don’t just pull answers from a vast set of available resources but can analyze and process the information within a really short period of time. The healthcare industry is no stranger to machine learning. For example, Google’s machine learning algorithm is now detecting breast cancer with an 89% accuracy, when compared to 73% for a pathologist.

This month we had the opportunity to celebrate another patient graduation. However, shortly thereafter, Houston and the rest of the Texas coast was struck by Hurricane Harvey. The catastrophic flooding was an awful turn of events that forced us to close our Houston office for a short period of time. Both offices are now open and fully functioning. As always, PCIC will continue to support our city’s vulnerable patients and the rehabilitation of our community with an emphasis in providing healthcare aid and care coordination services.
